Israel Hits Southern Lebanon with Artillery Assault
Since October 8, 2023, Israel has launched a broad offensive against Lebanon that escalated into full-scale war by September 23, 2024. Official statistics reveal the conflict has resulted in over 4,000 deaths, more than 17,000 injuries, and the displacement of nearly 1.4 million people.
Despite a ceasefire agreement brokered in November to halt cross-border hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, Israeli forces have persisted with almost daily strikes across southern Lebanon. These operations are reportedly aimed at Hezbollah targets.
Lebanese officials have documented nearly 3,000 breaches of the truce by Israel, including at least 224 fatalities and over 500 injuries since the ceasefire’s implementation.
The agreement mandated Israel’s complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January 26, but Tel Aviv refused to meet the deadline, resulting in an extension to February 18. Currently, Israel still occupies five military outposts along the border.
