Israeli Airstrike Leaves Syrian Civilian Dead in Lebanon
The attack struck the town of Deir Siriane, located in the Marjaayoun district, late Wednesday, according to the ministry’s announcement.
A local news outlet detailed that Israeli forces also targeted areas on the northern outskirts of Deir Siriane near the Litani River. Additionally, a garage and bulldozers positioned close to residential neighborhoods were hit, causing multiple injuries.
In an official military briefing, the Israeli army asserted that the strikes were aimed at Hezbollah infrastructure in the region.
The conflict between Israel and Lebanon intensified following Israel’s military operations that began on October 8, 2023. This escalation culminated in a full-scale war by September 2024, with casualties exceeding 4,000 dead and roughly 17,000 wounded.
Although a ceasefire was brokered in November, Israeli forces have continued near-daily strikes in southern Lebanon, stating their intent to disrupt Hezbollah’s activities.
The truce initially required Israel to withdraw entirely from southern Lebanon by January 26, but Tel Aviv’s refusal to meet this deadline led to an extension until February 18. Despite the agreement, Israel continues to hold military positions at five border outposts.
